And just like that, the first six months of 2014 have whizzed by, so we asked Fay Maschler to give us a half-time report on her favourite new London restaurants of the year so far.
Then there’s Marani, a Georgian restaurant in Mayfair, hot dog joint Dirty Bones, the return of Hammersmith neighbourhood favourite The Brackenbury and Stevie Parle’s new Dalston restaurant Rotorino.
Fay Maschler has eaten at them all – and reviewed them for the Evening Standard – but none of these made it into her top five restaurants of the year so far.
Instead, among new restaurants she’s visited in 2014 which stand up well at the year’s halfway point are a dockside tapas place, a refurbished local pub, and a superior wine bar with a small but well-executed menu.
