Bayern Munich play host to Real Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals aiming to overturn their first-leg deficit.
Real go into the game leading 1-0 thanks to their narrow win at the Santiago Bernabeu last week, which came courtesy of Karim Benzema’s goal.
The Spanish titans are aiming to win their 10th European Cup and are hoping to reach their first Champions League final in 12 years.
Real have fallen at the semi-final stage in each of the last three seasons, losing to Borussia Dortmund, Bayern and Barcelona.
The two clubs also met at this stage two years ago when Bayern progressed to the final via a penalty shoot-out.
Real also have a poor record on German soil with just two wins in 27 European matches against Bundesliga opposition.
However, they have already overcome Bundesliga opposition twice in the knock-out stages of the Champions League this season after following up a convincing 9-2 aggregate win over Schalke in the last 16 by hanging on to defeat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the quarter-finals.
Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has never lost against Bayern Munich as manager in the Champions League and he will be hoping to maintain that record by leading Real to the final in Lisbon on May 24th.
Both sides are still on course to secure a Treble with Real already winning the Copa del Rey and still competing for the Primera Liga title, while Bayern have secured the Bundesliga title and booked their place in the German Cup final.
Bayern are also aiming to become the first side in the Champions League era to successfully retain the trophy.
Bayern have a formidable home record at the Allianz Arena having suffered just four home defeats since the start of last season and they have scored in 24 of their last 25 Champions League games at home.
In all, Bayern and Real have met five times in the semi-finals of the European Cup and the Spanish side’s only aggregate success was back in 2000.
Bayern, who have appeared in three of the last four finals, dispatched La Liga opposition at this stage 12 months ago after a 7-0 aggregate demolition of Barcelona which included a 3-0 win in the Nou Camp in the second leg.
