Views sought on electric vehicle infrastructure

People have been invited to have their say on where to locate new electric vehicle charge points as part of a £17m government-funded scheme.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) is running a public consultation as it bids to improve infrastructure across the region.

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin has encouraged people to contribute to the consultation, which runs until 12 September.

She said: “I’m urging people to have their say so that we can create a greener, better-connected region that works for everyone.”

A WYCA spokesperson said a lack of reliable charging infrastructure in West Yorkshire was “a real barrier to more of us being able to switch to an electric vehicle”.

According to Zapmap, an app that helps people find electric vehicle charging points, there were 64,775 available in the UK at the end of June.

The government target is to have 300,000 public charging points in the UK by 2030.

To support the consultation an event will be held at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield on 10 September.
